The Classics at Lely Resort: Naples' Private Gary Player Club Inside a Public-Golf Community

The Classics at Lely Resort — Naples, Florida

If you’re researching Lely Resort, one distinction matters more than almost any other — and it’s the one most buyers get wrong. The Players Club & Spa and The Classics are two different clubs. Getting them straight is the difference between an accurate budget and a surprise. (Verify all figures below — clubs update schedules.)

Two clubs, one community

  • The Players Club & Spa is Lely’s big resort amenity club — lagoon pools, 13 Har-Tru tennis courts, pickleball, bocce, a 6,000 sq ft fitness center, a spa, and dining. Membership is tied to a refundable deposit plus annual dues, and some neighborhoods require it while others make it optional. (Full detail in our Lely Resort complete guide.)
  • The Classics is a separate, private, equity golf country club inside the gated Classics Plantation Estates — built around a Gary Player Signature 18-hole course, with its own clubhouse, dining, fitness, and tennis. This is the “private club” experience within Lely.

Meanwhile, Lely’s other two courses — Flamingo Island and Mustang — are public. So a single community offers pay-as-you-play public golf and a private equity option a few streets away. That range is genuinely rare.

What The Classics costs

Per recent (2025) Classics materials, the equity membership ran:

  • $45,000 initiation fee (about 50% transferable on resale),
  • roughly $8,040/year in club dues,
  • a $700/year food-and-beverage minimum,
  • on top of an estate HOA around $1,061/quarter.

These are real, recurring, and separate from the Players Club schedule — so when you compare a Classics estate to another Lely home, you’re comparing two different cost structures. Confirm the current numbers with the club before you rely on them.

The neighborhood

Classics Plantation Estates is a roughly 330-acre gated enclave built in the mid-2000s, made up of three villages — Avonlea, Covington Place, and Martinique — totaling about 200 luxury estates. Homes generally run 2,600 to 5,000+ square feet with private pools, priced roughly $600K to $2M+ (the largest custom estates reach higher — verify). Rentals are tightly restricted (one-year minimum), so this is an owner-occupant enclave, not an investor market.

Who it fits

The Classics suits a buyer who wants a private, equity golf-club lifestyle behind a second set of gates — the kind of buyer who’d otherwise look at a stand-alone private country club, but likes that Lely also offers public courses, resort amenities, and a wide surrounding community. If you don’t want a private golf membership, you’re better off elsewhere in Lely (or in a no-mandatory-membership community entirely) — no reason to buy into the equity structure you won’t use.
